The AES LRN Steering Interface Unit (SIU) was designed specifically for Learjet 35/36 models S/N 001 through S/N 590 with the JET FC200 Autopilot (A/P). The SIU integrates the Roll Steering output of an FMS directly to the A/P using the NAV button on the A/P controller, thus allowing you to take full advantage of the Flight Guidance features and capabilities available from your FMS. In the past, Left/Right deviation was the only steering output from the FMS that was coupled to the FC200 A/P. Many important features that allow the FMS to safely manage your aircraft are unavailable when this type of interface is used. With an AES L35 LRN Steering Interface Unit, full Roll Steering from the FMS is easily coupled to the FC200 and properly displayed on the ADI. This finally allows you, the Lear operator, to use all the capabilities of your existing FMS. It also enables you to upgrade to the new Flight Management Systems that have SIDS, STARS and holding patterns--features only available when the roll steering is used. OPERATIONSelection of "LRN" on HSI with auxiliary switch enables the SIU, which in turn cancels the previously selected Roll mode. FMS roll steering commands are then available for coupling to the FC200 A/P via the NAV select button on the autopilot controller. Short range navigation (such as VOR) is locked out until the "LRN" on HSI switch is activated. Selection of "NAV" mode on the autopilot controller illuminates "NAV CAPT" and couples FMS roll steering data directly to the autopilot and flight director. Should an invalid occur, the autopilot automatically reverts to Level mode and the "NAV CAPT" light begins to flash. The autopilot remains in this condition until the pilot takes appropriate action (such as selecting HDG mode), which clears the flashing "NAV CAPT" light. Selecting the "NAV" button with an invalid FMS will also cause the "NAV CAPT" light to flash and revert the auto pilot to level mode.
